Our
History
 |
The
rustic farm "Los Cisnes", in honor to the
swans that visit the Caulín Bay, was acquired
by Mr. Joaquín Hannig Kühl over 45 years
ago. He, close-knit to his wife Margaret, began to enjoy
the wonders of this place. |
They
began with vast plantations of apple trees, then over 3.000
sheeps; a milk farm which due to the distance to the city
of Ancud had nowhere to deliver the milk, forced the Hannig
family to create a cheese factory. This cheese is still recalled
by the german settlers in Santiago, whom tasted this delicacy.
They
also had the chance to handle a fish farm, in the golden
ages of the rainbow trout ... And the geese, tradition
brought by Ms. Selma, Margaret's mother, were fleeced
and tought the peasants this ancient tradition, which
on this lands is still kept, manufacturing in this way
the famous geese plumoneses ... |

Time
passed by and next to their four children, didn't lose
an opportunity to visit the paradise of Caulín.
Year by year more and more of their friends came to
visit, whom asked Mr. Joaquín to build some huts
for them. So he did, and as time went by, a small tourist
complex, named today Hotel Caulín. |
Mr.Don
Joaquín had a very particular vision about life, always
thinking about the necesary rest for the human species, did
not allow any sort of luxury in his rustic farm Fundo Los Cisnes.
|
This
has to be managed in a simple way, without big complications.
That is the reason why the huts are built in a rustic style,
only with natural wood, spacious and comfordable. They await
for their visitors bringing peace next to the fire of their
"cancagua" (stone chimmey originary of Chiloé),
delivering a view of the seas or the woods that calms the
soul.
Today
the complex is managed by the daughter of Mr. Joaquín,
Ines, and his wife Margaret. With their deference you can
get to know what the original settlers of the island did.
